While Subaru is synonymous with quality-made vehicles, its charitable arm is reaching out to feed Americans with an extraordinary donation of 50 million meals. Subaru of America, Inc. and two of its independent distributors are joining forces with the Feeding America organization to combat hunger in the wake of COVID-19's unprecedented economic decline.

The rapid spread of COVID-19 and its devastating consequences have forced a shutdown of most US states leaving businesses with their doors shut, and food banks scrambling to meet the sudden increase in demand. Within a matter of months, millions of Americans lost their jobs and income. Schools closed for the year, thus disallowing children who relied on school lunches from getting those meals.

It is in this context that Subaru of America, Inc., Subaru of New England, and Subaru Distributors Corp. have undergirded Feeding America through their charitable program, Subaru Loves to Help. Their generous donation will help all 200 food banks in the Feeding America network make food distributions to the local communities that need it most.

With the reality of a new normal on the horizon, hunger may be an issue for some time to come. Even before COVID-19 became a household word, 11 million children and 37 million adults were already food insecure. With continued joblessness and the inability of millions of Americans to make ends meet, the collaboration of Subaru of America, Inc., and Feeding America will play a vital role in offsetting hunger in America.

Subaru is not new to charitable giving, however. The company has helped Americans in the past through challenging economic times. The Subaru Loves to Help program is active in the communities where its dealerships do business. They have helped Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity and the Boys & Girls Club to name a few. In line with their commitment to giving back, they will continue to extend their charitable reach to Feeding America through additional donations, food drives, and volunteer events.
